Alumnus establishes minority scholarship in parents’ memory
Earl A. Walker, M.D. ’77
Earl A. Walker, M.D. ’77, has donated $50,000 to establish a scholarship fund in memory of his parents. The Joseph A. and Bessie C. Walker Scholarship Fund will benefit minority students pursuing medical degrees at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Walker, who also earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and applied physics from the former Case Institute of Technology (now the Case Western Reserve University School of Engineering) in 1965, practices dermatology in Columbus, Ohio. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. His gift honors his parents, both of whom died in 2004. Dr. Walker’s father was a retired bailiff supervisor for the city of Cleveland. He and his wife were longtime residents of the University Circle neighborhood that is home to the university. “My parents lived in University Circle for 54 years and were always proud of the institutions located there as our neighbors,” said Dr. Walker. “We watched as all the building and development took place in this area with pride that comes with a community spirit.” Those wishing to contribute to the Joseph A. and Bessie C. Walker Scholarship Fund may do so in care of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, 10900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44106-4923. For more information, contact Shawna Hofstetter, director of alumni relations and annual giving, at (216) 368-5853, (800) 315-4438 or shawna.hofstetter@case.edu. |
