‘Fin-ishing’ a building
Architectural “fins” in varying shades of blue, meant to call to mind DNA, are installed in May on two sides of the Iris S. and Bert L. Wolstein Research Building, jointly owned and operated by Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland. The 320,000 square foot building, at the corner of Cornell Road and Circle Drive, is a commanding presence. Its exterior features Valders limestone, quarried in Wisconsin, in a curtain wall of metal panels and glass. In fact, glass represents about 40 percent of the exterior. Landscaping features include gardens and a fountain. The building’s interior is decorated with the work of artists from Northeast Ohio and others. |
