Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine
CME Program
Purpose: The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and University Hospitals Case Medical Center, through its CME Program, will support its faculty in the development and delivery of high quality post-graduate education activities with the goal of improving the quality of patient care and medical outcomes in Northern Ohio. The Case Western Reserve University CME Program will support the lifelong education of physicians by helping them to identify gaps in their professional practice and to provide educational opportunities to address those learning needs.
Content Areas: The content of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine accredited activities is developed from a needs assessment process, which identifies professional practice gaps. The Course Director, Planning Committee and Faculty utilize the ACGME/ABMS core competencies as a basis for the content areas of our CME activities which includes clinical care, medical knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, practice-based improvement, and systems-based practice.
Target Audience: All faculty affiliated with the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine including its teaching hospitals, institutional partners and alumni are the CME Program's primary audience. Physicians and other allied health care professionals in and approximate to Northern Ohio are our secondary audience. As a nationally and internationally acclaimed School of Medicine selected accredited activities have a broader target audience.
Educational Activities and Services Provided: Activities sponsored will include Regularly Scheduled Series (such as grand rounds and series), enduring materials (such as monographs and other electronic formats), web-based activities and live conferences. The CME Program will also provide services in support of faculty professional development and institutional healthcare improvement initiatives. The educational design and methods for CME activities is based on the identified learning need and practice gap.
Expected Results:
(1) The sponsored learning activities are based upon the ACGME/ABMS core competencies as a basis for the content areas of our CME activities which includes clinical care, medical knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, practice-based improvement, and systems-based practice.
(2) The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine CME Program is committed to developing CME activities based upon identified professional practice gaps.
(3) Case Western Reserve University is committed to a CME Program with the expected results of change in 1) clinician strategies, skills, or abilities to perform a task and 2) perceived self-efficacy in clinical practice or performance.
