Robert H. Miller, Ph.D.

Dr. Miller is the Vice Dean for Research at the School of Medicine, the Director of the Center for Translational Neuroscience, the Allen C. Holmes Professor of Neurological Diseases, and a Professor of Neurosciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Miller also holds appointments at the Cancer Center and Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospitals of Cleveland. He obtained both his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from University College in London, England and joined the faculty at Case Western Reserve University in 1987.

Dr. Miller has published more than 120 papers in the area of neural development with a particular interest in the brain and spinal cord. He is a founding member, and research coordinator, of the Myelin Repair Foundation, a non-profit foundation based in California whose goal is to rapidly develop new therapies for Multiple Sclerosis. He has served on multiple review groups including as chair of NIH study sections. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Shriners Hospital and has served on the advisory board for the Maryland Stem Cell Corporation. Dr Miller serves on the Editorial board of a number of neurobiological and developmental journals.

He has won numerous awards, including the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship Award, Jacob Javits Neuroscience Merit Award from the NIH, and the Charles Judson Herrick Award from the American Association of Anatomists.

Dr. Miller has a primary interest in CNS neural development with a focus on understanding the biology of neural diseases including Multiple Sclerosis, Brain tumors and Cerebral Palsy. Dr. Miller's development research has focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate glial cell determination in the developing vertebrate CNS.
